Celebrate The Bucks County Plein Air Festival This Weekend

A free festival will be held Sunday at BCCC in Newtown. There will be quick-draw competitions, live music, an art exhibit, and more.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA —The fourth annual Bucks County Plein Air Festival is underway and goes through Sunday, Oct. 6. Celebrations and a free event will be held this weekend at Bucks County Community College's Newtown Campus.

Award-wining artist Alan Fetterman, the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, and Bucks County Community College have collaborated to host event.

The festival features 30 artists from across North America who have been selected competitively by a juror to create art “en plein air,” or “in open air,” throughout the county.

Outdoor painting will go through Friday, Oct. 4. The festival will then culminate in two days of celebration at Bucks County Community College's Newtown campus.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, a VIP Collectors’ Preview & Pre-Sale Reception is planned at Tyler Hall.

That will be followed by a free festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6 at the college’s Newtown Campus. There will be quick-draw competitions, live music, entertainment, sculpture tours, and an art exhibit and sale.

“Bucks County is nothing shy of amazing,” said Fetterman. “With more than 50 years of calling Bucks County my home, building this wonderful festival with the partnerships of the college, the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County, and the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce is an honor.”

The graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Bucks County Community Collegehas been featured in more than 30 solo exhibitions.

Jurors for this year’s Bucks County Plein Air Festival are Joe Gyurcsak, a New Jersey-based award-winning artist who exhibits, lectures, and judges across the country; and Valerie Craig, known for her expressive brushwork who has been judging competitions nationally and internationally for more than 20 years.

More than $15,000 in prizes are available.
