Council Rock Changes Masking Guidelines 'Effective Immediately'
The school board will discuss the district's health and safety plan based on new guidance from the CDC in its Thursday meeting.
NEWTOWN, PA — After the Centers for Disease Control updated its guidance on indoor masking regulations Friday, the Council Rock School District released a statement Monday saying that students will no longer be required to wear masks on school buses and vans.
The changed masking on Council Rock public transportation is effective immediately, according to a message from substitute superintendent Susan Elliott.
"Students may continue to wear masks optionally as per a family’s decision," she wrote.

The CDC also said it no longer recommends universal indoor mask-wearing in K-12 schools and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 transmission level, except for those who are immunocompromised. Bucks County currently has medium transmission, according to the CDC's county-by-county map.
"School systems at their discretion may choose to require that people wear masks on buses or vans,” the CDC guidance reads.

Council Rock has had a mask-optional COVID-19 policy in its buildings since December, when the governor's state masking order for school was overturned.
At the Board of School Directors meeting on Thursday, board members will review the current Health and Safety Plan to discuss and revise the plan to reflect the new national guidance.
Other items on Thursday's agenda include approving next year's school calendar and further discussing the capital and facility improvement projects.
