Council Rock Educator A Finalist For 'PA Teacher Of The Year'

A Council Rock North English​ teacher has been named a finalist in the 2021 PA Teacher of the Year competition.

NEWTOWN, PA — A Council Rock North English teacher has been named a finalist in the 2021 PA Teacher of the Year competition.

Hollie Woodard is one of 12 finalists in the PA Department of Education competition.

She was nominated for her advocacy work in dyslexia, according to information from the Council Rock School District. From there, Woodard received the superintendent's approval to apply and submitted letters of recommendation from her principal, a colleague, and a parent.

She also submitted several essays about teaching, learning, and education, "focusing on advocating for the utilization of ed-tech and 21st Century instructional strategies to generate personalized learning paths for all students," according to information from the district.

Woodard was then interviewed by a member of the PA Department of Education before being named one of the dozen finalists.

The finalists have one more round until a winner is determined: they will all record a lesson to be reviewed by the state Department of Education.

Woodard teaches English 11, Virtual English 12, and Critical Viewing. She's been with the district for 23 years.
