NEWTOWN, PA — Superintendent Robert Fraser of the Council Rock School District will be taking a leave of absence from his duties, the school board of directors said Thursday night.

Fraser requested the leave, according to a statement by board president Ed Salamon and vice president Mike Thorwart.

While the board said it hoped Fraser would soon return, assistant superintendent Susan Elliott will step up to serve as the substitute superintendent during this period. She delivered the superintendent's report on Thursday night.

The reason for Fraser's absence has not yet been disclosed, and a request for comment from the district had not yielded a response Friday evening.

"The board will provide further information to the community as soon as possible," Salamon said, reading from the statement at Thursday night's meeting.
