'Detective Brian Webb' Is Scamming Newtown Residents, Police Warn
The cops said someone claiming to work with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is calling residents from a spoof phone number.
NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Borough Police Department warned Tuesday of some particularly strange scam calls in the area.
Someone identifying themselves as "Detective Brian Webb" has been calling residents from what appears to be the police station phone number, claiming to work with the police department's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Police say the calls are a scam. They believe the person calling is using an application called SpoofCard to change the caller ID to appear to be the borough police department's phone number.

"Newtown Borough Police Department does not employee a Detective Brian Webb," Police Chief James J. Sabath said Tuesday. "Newtown Borough Police Department also will NEVER ask you to pay money in order to avoid prosecution, or to pay a victim money to avoid prosecution."
Police are investigating these incidents, and encouraged residents to contact the borough at (215) 860-7835 or by calling Bucks County 911 Emergency Communications at (215) 328-8524 should they receive a phone call like this.
