NEWTOWN, PA — Council Rock School District has finalized its class of 2020 celebration plan, a series of events that will honor graduates amid the coronavirus pandemic.
This year's commencement celebrations will look vastly different from those in the past. There will be no big in-person graduation ceremony due to the current limitations on large gatherings imposed to slow the spread of the virus.
The celebrations will kick off May 12 with a special surprise video message. From there, various activities will be held, including lawn sign displays, virtual recognition ceremonies, and a senior car parade.

The festivities will culminate June 15 with a virtual graduation ceremony followed by a community-wide "Clap-Out."
Yearbook distribution and an in-person gathering is on the schedule but dates have not yet been set.

"An in-person gathering of some type will occur when health and safety restrictions are lifted by the Governor. Students will be surveyed at that time regarding the type of event they would prefer," information from the district said.
All Pennsylvania schools have been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bucks County remains under the "red" level of coronavirus mitigation measures, which includes a stay-at-home order.
