Philly Beer Scene Explodes With 19 New Breweries, Taprooms

If you like craft beer, there's a lot to be excited about. At least 19 breweries and taprooms have opened or will open soon in the area.

GREATER PHILADELPHIA — Fans of craft beer have a lot to be excited about in the Philadelphia area. The region is experiencing a surge of craft brewery openings and expansions, including new taprooms, craft breweries, and beer gardens.

The craft beer explosion is happening in the city proper, as well as the suburbs, and includes the addition of a huge new Iron Hill facility, a slew of new small breweries in the suburbs, as well as a tap room with beer and local wine in Montgomery County.

AMBLER BEER COMPANY

Ambler Beer Company opened its doors in August. The 1,800-square-foot taproom on Brookside Avenue has 12 drafts on tap. Light snacks are available, and the brewery hosts food trucks on Fridays. Learn more.

ARTILLERY BREWING COMPANY

Artillery Brewing Company opened on West Chester's Thornbury Farm in July. Beer recipes are inspired by Belgian and German-style ales, as well as India Pale Ales."Our Battlefield Ales borrow from recipes of the American Revolution and bring them to modern day with subtle modern brewing touches."Learn more.

BILL'S BEST BREWERY

Bill's Best Brewery opened in the spring in Glenside. It features a menu of craft draft beers featuring in-house specialties like Due East Imperial Red Ale and a Skinny Angus Nitro Pub Stout. They also serve an array of other local brews. Learn more.

BODEGA BY LA CABRA

Bodega is a taproom extension of La Cabra's home location in Berwyn. The brewpub serves La Cabra beer, and an "occasional guest taps from our PA brewer friends." Learn more.

BROKEN GOBLET

Broken Goblet opened a new location on State Road in Bensalem over the summer. It features 20 taps, two bars and a patio. Learn more.

BROTHERS KERSHNER

Brewer brothers Kevin and Basil Kershner opened this new spot in July. It's located in Skippack, in an old auto body shop. In addition to the craft-brewed beers, Brothers Kershner hosts happy hours, live music, and open mic nights. Learn more.

IRON HILL

Iron Hill has announced plans to significantly expand its brewing capacity, launching its first full-scale production brewery in Exton. The new 10,000 square- foot facility will be located at the Shops on Eagleview. It's expected to open up at some point in the summer of 2020. Additionally, Iron Hill has plans to open a brewpub in Newtown. Learn more.

THE LARIMER BEER COMPANY

Located in Chester, this new brewing company originated in Colorado. Owner Matt Lindenmuth opened the Pennsylvania location in July. It is located across from the Philadelphia Union's Talen Energy Stadium. Learn more.

LOCAL TAP

Local Tap, a business that will sell locally sourced beer, wine, spirits, and coffee, is expected to open this month in Lansdale. The business, spearheaded by the Doylestown Brewing Co., will be located on South Broad Street in the Pavilion Shopping Center. It will feature 24 taps of local beer, plus Pennsylvania wine and spirits. Learn more.

NEWTOWN BREWING COMPANY

The Newtown Brewing Company, a 4,600-square-foot brewery and taproom, is expected to open this fall in Bucks County. The brewery will boast brewing, manufacturing, and warehouse uses, with half of the building functioning as a taproom that will be open to the public. There will be 10 beers on tap, with a rotating schedule of lagers, IPAs, Belgians, wheat beers, stouts, pale ales, and more. Learn more.

NIGHT SHIFT BREWING

Massachusetts-based Night Shift Brewing will open a location on Domino Lane in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. The 130,000-square-foot brewery and distributorship is expected to open by the end of 2020. Night Shift has many styles of beer, including American pale ale Whirlpool, American IPA Santilli and light lagers Nite Lite and Lime Lite. Learn more.

ODD LOGIC BREWING CO.

The much-anticipated Odd Logic will be coming to Bristol soon. Odd Logic Brewing Co., which represented at the recent Newtown Beerfest, is opening a brewpub on Radcliffe Street in Bristol. Odd Logic announced in September everything was ready to go, the business was just waiting on final inspections. Learn more.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY BREWING

This small-batch, artisanal craft brewery has a unique new taproom in Green Lane. "We’ll be serving traditional styled beers to unique foraged and botanical ales handbrewed on site for you," the website explains. Learn more.

TANNERY RUN BREW WORKS

Tannery Run Brew Works opened this spring in Ambler. The brew pub describes itself as "the approachable brewpub...friendly, affordable, community-focused, family-friendly, sustainable, and not just for beer snobs." In addition to an array of house-made beers, Tannery Run also serves local wines, ciders, and "a seasonal cocktail rotation and a twist on a few classics." Learn more.

TRIPLE BOTTOM BREWING

Triple Bottom Brewing opened in September on Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. Founded by three friends, the brewery serves up a variety of lagers and IPA. Learn more.

TROUBLE'S END BREWING

Trouble's End Brewing will open in the space previously occupied by Appalachian Brewing in Collegeville. An opening date is slated at some point before the end of 2019. Learn more.

VAULT BREWING COMPANY'S TANNERY TAPROOM

Vault Brewing Company has expanded with the Tannery Taproom, located within walking distance from its brewpub in Yardley borough. Learn more.

WARWICK FARM BREWING

In Jamison,Warwick Farm Brewing has plans to open a taproom. The taproom and brewery will be located on a farm off Almshouse Road. Specific details on an opening date have not yet been released. Learn more.
