NEWTOWN, PA — Two best friends have started a new hot yoga studio, the aptly-named Studio Lit, in Newtown.

Even though "opening a business in the middle of the pandemic sounds crazy," as they wrote in a news release, Jennifer Abraham and Helene Polin wanted to take the gamble.

“After everything we all just lived through, we could no longer ignore our calling to open a yoga studio," Polin said. "Mindful movement and a supportive community of like-minded people can get us through the hardest of times."

For both of the entrepreneurs, the closings of other studios in the area saddened them — and made them crave more in-person classes.

"We were deeply saddened by the closings of other studios in our area that we had adored for so many years, and soon we both felt the longing for in-person classes," Polin said. "As we opened our doors to the community this February, we hold hope in our hearts that we can offer a space so that people can reconnect with themselves through yoga once again."

Studio LIT is an infrared hot yoga studio at 22 Richboro Road in Newtown, in the same center as Dunkin Donuts.

The studio offers hot and warm yoga sessions, high intensity interval training, fusion fitness classes, reiki healing, workshops, retreats, and other special events.

“We have invested in a far infrared heating system because this type of heat and light is known to have many health benefits and has the effect of strengthening and activating the regenerative processes in the human body," Abraham said, adding “When you step into our studio, you will immediately notice that the heaters emit this therapeutic heat. It directly permeates the body and detoxifies, de-stresses, strengthens and rejuvenates the body and mind."

The studio also plans to take precautionary measures to provide a safe and comfortable environment for members and staff, including using disinfectant technology.

Studio Lit's full schedule is available now online, and news can be found on Instagram @studiolityoga.
