NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — "Americana," a solo exhibition by Greta Karr, opens on Friday, August 1 at the ArtWRKD exhibition space at 128 South State Street in Newtown Borough.

A Bucks County native recently returned from Los Angeles, Karr brings her visceral, multidimensional vision home with a striking new body of work that explores American identity through unconventional canvases and unflinching truth.

Known for her boundary-pushing approach, Karr trades traditional canvases for evocative found materials — truck doors, saddles, cigarette packs — each object imbued with cultural memory and layered significance.

"‘Americana’ is a body of work tackling different facets of American society, culture, and history," said Karr. "Through symbolic imagery, I address themes of consumerism, industrialization, addiction, beauty, [and] westernized culture’s separation from the natural world — and furthermore, ourselves.”

In addition to powerful oil paintings, the exhibition incorporates sculptural and performative elements, inviting audiences into a full sensory encounter with Karr’s reflections on beauty, duality, control, and environmental consciousness.

Karr is the recipient of ArtWRKD’s inaugural Summer Granted Artist in Residency for 2025.

Greta Karr is a multidisciplinary artist whose work examines power, symbolism, and environmental empathy through unconventional media. Her creative process is deeply influenced by her lived experiences on both coasts and her enduring connection to the natural world.

Karr’s Americana is not a nostalgia piece — it is a reckoning. Her visual language is raw, reflective, and ultimately reimagines what the American story looks like when told with honesty and compassion.

The exhibit is open through August 31 at ArtWRKD, 128 S. State Street, Newtown, PA 18940. For additional details, visit www.artwrkd.com
