Newtown Finance Committee Discusses 2022 Budget, Nonprofit Aid

Members of the Township's Board of Supervisors gathered via Zoom to discuss financial aid to nonprofits, public health, and the 2022 budget.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Finance Committee met via Zoom last night to vote on and discuss current and future financial plans for the Township The meeting began at 7:10 p.m.

Committee member Shelley Howland began the meeting by holding a vote to approve meeting minutes for their June and July meetings. The minutes were approved unanimously.

Newtown Township Supervisor Dennis Fisher, who streamed from the Newtown Township Public Meeting Room, discussed a further financial plans the Township will be undertaking within the next year, showing their plans on a slideshow made in collaboration with Zelenkofske Axelrod, LLC, a CPA firm based in Jamison.

The firm will be supplying more information related to these funds and plans to the Committee in the near future.

The Committee agreed to join together with PECO on Oct. 19 to discuss further developments to their work with the Township.

Committee member Peg Dissinger said she wants to start planning for the 2022 budget for the Township very soon. The Committee agreed that planning should begin in the near future.

John Mack mentioned that he wants to expand his and the Committee's presence on social media and news websites, including Patch.com, which he has posted on in the past. This will be in an effort to communicate with residents more frequently and to keep them up to date on things like road closures and break news in the Township.

The idea of a text-based subscription for residents was floated by members in an effort to expand their influence in the community. Dissinger agreed, saying "it's important for the residents of the community."

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
