Newtown Police Honor Fallen Officer On Anniversary Of His Death

NEWTOWN, PA — Members of the Newtown Borough Police Department visited Newtown Cemetery on Wednesday to pay their respects to a fallen colleague on the 16th anniversary of his death in the line of duty.

Officer Brian Gregg was shot and killed Sept. 29, 2005, by Robert Flor after taking him to St. Mary’s Hospital for blood-alcohol testing in a suspected DUI case. While at the hospital, Flor grabbed another officer’s gun and shot Gregg, another officer and a hospital employee.

Gregg was 46.

“Newtown Borough Police Officer Brian Gregg was killed in the line of duty 16 years ago today,” the department posted Wednesday along with several photos. “This morning we honored his memory and prayed for his family. Gone but never forgotten.”

The Upper Makefield Township Police Department also posted a tribute to Gregg on Wednesday, saying his “sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

The Bristol Township Police Department said Gregg “is fondly remembered for his contributions to his community, his family and his profession.”

Newtown Borough officials renamed the Newtown Bypass in 2014 in Gregg’s honor. It is now called the Officer Brian Gregg Memorial Highway.

Flor pleaded guilty in October 2006 to first-degree murder and entered a no-contest plea to 39 other counts, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and robbery. A jury sentenced Flor to death the following month.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court affirmed Flor's death sentence in 2010 and rejected his petition for post-conviction relief last week.
