Newtown Police Log: DUI Arrests, Phone Scams & More

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between April 1 - 8, 2021.

April 1

A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 4 p.m. to report a scam telephone call. She explained that she received a voice automated message from an unknown caller stating they were from "The United States Law Enforcement Agency" and demanding money and threatening to issue an arrest warrant. She contacted police who verified that it was a scam.

April 2

Around 12:05 a.m., police pulled over the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz SUB for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Newtown Gate Drive. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and the driver was unable to pass field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicious of driving under the influence.

Around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a disorderly person at the Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant. Officers made contact with the restaurant managers and a highly intoxicated female. The woman was charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

April 4

Around 3 a.m., police pulled over the driver of a gold Toyota sedan for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Woodbourne Road. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and the driver was unable to pass field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicious of driving under the influence.

April 5

Around 9 p.m., police responded to the fields behind the Newtown Skate Park for a report of teens setting something on fire. Police made contact with the teens and found evidence of a small fire and damage to the field from the teens driving their vehicles on it. The teens were issued citations.

April 7

The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail on Durham Road at Fox Hill Drive in Wrightstown Township. Fourteen trucks were stopped and 12 were inspected. One truck was placed out of service. Three citations and six warnings were issued for violations that were found.

April 8

Around 2:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a gray Jeep for a vehicle code violation on Mill Pond Road near Richboro Road. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and the driver was unable to pass field sobriety tests. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicious of driving under the influence.
