NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Theatre is planning a pandemic proof version of its annual Black & White Dinner. The outdoor public picnic on State Street is a fundraiser for the nonprofit theater. It will be held Sept. 12 from 7 to 10 p.m.

And now, more than ever, theater representatives say they need the public's support.

"Funds are especially critical right now, since the theatre has been closed since mid-March," an event announcement said.

This year there will be rows of two-person tables set up six feet apart stretching down North State Street. "This change will help guests maintain social distancing," according to the theater.

"To celebrate the elegance of old Hollywood," dinner guests are asked to dress only in black and white for this event – and that includes down to the face mask. Masks are required but can be removed while seated and eating.

Guests are invited to decorate their place at the table with black and white decor. White linens, chairs, and bottles of hand sanitizer will be provided. Bring a picnic dinner, including beverages, flatware and utensils. Homemade food or take-out from a local restaurant are permitted but alcoholic beverages are not.

In years past, the evening culminated with a movie showing inside the theater, but crowd size restrictions will prevent that portion of the event this year.

Due to physical distancing requirements, tickets are only available in pairs for the 2020 event. Each pair will have their own two-person table. You can save adjacent tables if you are meeting friends at the event.

Tickets are $105 per couple and are available through Sept. 7. For tickets and more information, go here.
