PA Releases Unemployment Data For June

HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania's unemployment rate was 13 percent in June, according to data released Friday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

Nationally, unemployment is 11.1 percent, which is down 2.2 percentage points from May.

Pennsylvania unemployment rate has increased by 8.7 percentage points from June 2019, due to the coronavirus pandemic that has forced business closures and layoffs.

Over the past two months, Pennsylvania has recovered nearly 40 percent of the total nonfarm jobs lost in March and April.

Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force – the estimated number of residents working or looking for work – was down 175,000 over the month due to declines in both resident employment and unemployment.

Jobs increased in eight of the 11 industry supersectors, state data shows. The largest gain was in leisure and hospitality, where 76,100 jobs were added since May.
