Philadelphia Airport Strike: Will It Affect Thanksgiving Travel?

Will the strike at PHL impact your holiday travel next week?

Workers at Philadelphia International Airport went on strike Wednesday night, walking away from their jobs in protest of their hours and their wages.

The strike was coordinated with workers at six other airports across the country. Nearly 2,000 workers in total left the job on Wednesday night in Philadelphia, Newark, New York’s Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, as well as Newark Liberty, Chicago O’Hare, Boston, and Fort Lauderdale, the report states.

It’s still unclear exactly what affect, if any, this will have on passengers flying out of and into Philadelphia and other affected airports.

A spokesperson with the Philadelphia Airport told 6 ABC that the airport was working to ensure that operations continued to go smoothly.

AAA has predicted 2015 to be a banner year for Thanksgiving travelers, with 49.6 million people expected to travel “long distances,” and over 3 million are expected to fly.

ABC 8 in Dallas, a city that is not affected by strikes, notes the potential for a “ripple effect” across the country, as each airline’s activities affect the schedules in other cities.

If you’re traveling this week or over the Thanksgiving Holiday, it’s important to monitor the situation. Check here for flight information on all incoming and outgoing service from Philadelphia.
