NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Members of the Newtown Rotary Club will be at McCaffrey’s Market in Newtown on Saturday, Oct. 25, collecting food for the financially challenged.

The Rotarians will be at the store from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., accepting donations of non-perishable food items, including cereal, crackers, oatmeal, canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, soup, applesauce, canned meats, and more.

In addition to the non-perishables, the Rotarians will be accepting cash donations, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Gene and Marlene Epstein Foundation up to $5,000, for the benefit of the Wrightstown Food Cupboard.

If you can't make it to the food drive, monetary donations can be dropped off at the Penns Park United Methodist Church at 2394 2nd Street Pike or can be mailed to the Newtown Rotary Club, P.O. Box 123, Penns Park, PA 18943. Checks should be made out to the Newtown Rotary Club and must be dated before Nov. 2 to be counted toward the foundation match. Mark "food drive" on the memo line.

The non-perishables collected on Saturday will be distributed to the needy through the Wrightstown Food Cupboard, which is a joint mission of Anchor Presbyterian, Penns Park United Methodist, St. Mark’s Orthodox Church, and Wrightstown Friends Meeting.

The food drive is organized twice a year under the leadership of Rotarian Shari Donahue, the owner of the Zebra-Striped Whale in Newtown.

The food cupboard serves as a lifeline for anyone who needs extra sustenance. Thanks to a generous community, it's well stocked with all the essentials, from canned vegetables and fruit to cereal bars.

To thank shoppers for their donations, the Rotarians will be handing out free reusable grocery bags while supplies last. The bags are compliments of the Rotary Club and McCaffrey's Market.
