Summer Construction Projects Impacting Roads In The Newtown Area
Motorists can expect lane closures and detours as a result of these summer road and utility projects in the Newtown area.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Motorists can expect road closures and detours due to a number of utility projects taking place on local roadways. Here's a rundown on what you can expect on the roadways this week as you head out the door to work:
Centre Avenue Daytime Closure
- A daytime road closure and detour continue through July 11 on a one-block section of Centre Avenue between South State Street and the municipal parking lot in Newtown Borough. During construction, the block will be closed to traffic in both directions, Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic will be detoured using Sycamore Street, Washington Avenue, and State Street. Local access is being maintained to the municipal parking lot. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent. Newtown Artesian Water Company is completing the project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.
Lindenhurst Road Daytime Closure
- Through the end of August, PECO will be performing daytime utility work on Lindenhurst Road in Newtown and Lower Makefield townships. The work is closing the road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays between Route 332 (Newtown Bypass) and Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road) in Lower Makefield and Newtown townships. During the closure, motorists are being directed to use Route 332 (Newtown Bypass), Durham Road, and Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road).
Route 32 Repaving
- Through late July, road work, including pavement repair and resurfacing operations, will close sections of Route 32 (River Road) in New Hope and Yardley Boroughs and Solebury, Upper Makefield, and Lower Makefield townships. Local access will be maintained up to the work zones. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. Weather permitting, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at one more of the following locations:
- Route 32 (River Road) will be closed and detoured between Route 232 (Windy Bush Road) and Aquetong Road in Solebury. Motorists will be directed to use Route 232 (Windy Bush Road) and Aquetong Road.
- Route 32 (River Road) will be closed and detoured between Lurgan Road and Stoneybrook Road. Motorists will be directed to use Lurgan Road, Route 232 (Windy Bush Road), Pineville Road, and Stoneybrook Road in Upper Makefield.
- Route 32 (River Road) will be closed and detoured between Taylorsville Road and Route 532 (General Washington Memorial Boulevard) in Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield. Motorists will be directed to use Taylorsville Road.
- Route 32 (River Road) will be closed and detoured between Lurgan Road and Aquetong Road in Solebury Township. Motorists will be directed to use Lurgan Road, Street Road, Route 232 (Windy Bush Road), and Aquetong Road in Solebury and Upper Makefield.
Nearby Construction Work
- Road construction is scheduled to continue this week on Route 232 (2nd Street Pike) in Northampton Township under a local safety improvement project. From now through Thursday, July 31, motorists can expect periodic lane closures with flagging Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Route 232 (2nd Street Pike) between Tanyard Road and Upper Holland Road for excavation, conduit installation, and slab work. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
