Theft Of Car, Motorcycle Under Investigation In Newtown Township
Police stop a stolen U-Haul truck on the Newtown Bypass; vehicle recovered, driver taken into custody.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between July 20 and July 23:
July 20
- Police responded to a Newtown Township residence around 7:30 a.m. for the report of a stolen vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
- At approximately 9:45 a.m., a Newtown Township resident stopped at police headquarters to report the theft of his motorcycle. The investigation is ongoing.
July 21

- At approximately 9:15 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Chevrolet pick-up truck for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
July 22
- At approximately 2 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Nissan Altima for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Second Street Pike and Cherry Lane. As a result of the investigation, the driver was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Department and transferred without incident.
July 23

- At approximately 11:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a stolen U-Haul truck in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Summit Trace Road. As a result of the investigation, the truck was recovered and the driver was taken into custody without incident.
