There’s Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals Near Newtown

Fall is a great time to get outside in Newtown and take in the rich offering of festivals.

NEWTOWN, PA — Fall is a great time to get outside in Newtown and take in the rich offering of festivals.

The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.

Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits. Here are a few festivals and events in the Newtown area worth putting on the calendar:

  • Autumn Encampment & Market at Washington Crossing, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 15 from noon to 4 p.m. During this event, colonial townspeople will gather in the historic village to sell their wares, soldiers will drill 18th-century military tactics, and the park’s fife and drum corps will perform. Tickets are available online at WashingtonCrossingPark.org/events or at the gate on the day of the event. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children age five to 11, and free for those under five, active duty military, and park members. A $20 family ticket is available for two adults and two children under 18 living in the same household. Admission to Bowman’s Hill Tower is free that day with an event wristband. This is a rain or shine event.
  • Sleepy Hollow Haunted Acres, 881 Highland Road, Newtown. Weekends through Oct. 29. Sleepy Hollow offers three haunted attractions - the Sleepy Hallow Hayride, the House in the Hollow and the Field of Fright.
  • A Halloween-themed Movies In The Park featuring the original “Hocus Pocus” takes place on Friday, Oct. 21 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Linton Park, Newtown. There is no rain date.
  • Shady Brook Farm Fallfest, Lower Makefield. Go pumpkin picking, scenic wagon rides, spooky snacks, barnyard animals, ghoulish ghouls, bonfires and a five-acre corn maze.
  • Newtown Borough Halloween Parade, Saturday, October 29. Costumed children and adults are invited to gather in the parking lot in front of the Stocking Works. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with judging at 9. After the judging is complete, the Council Rock High School North Marching Band will lead the parade north on State to Greene Street and east on Greene to Brian Gregg Park where the band will entertain and the best costumes will be announced.
