Traffic Stops Result In Arrests For Suspicion Of DUI In Newtown Twp.

Police also investigate unemployment and cryptocurrency fraud and take several into custody on active warrants.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Dec. 13 and Dec. 19:

December 13

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 2 p.m. in reference to unemployment fraud. A report was made to document the incident.

  • Shortly before 10 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a GMC Sierra for committing a vehicle code violation at the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. As a result of an investigation, the driver was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Falls Township Police Department and transferred without incident.

December 15

  • At approximately 3 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of an Audi A5 for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

  • At approximately 1:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford Focus for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Cambridge Lane and Gablewing Circle. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

December 17

  • Police were dispatched to the Bucks County Community College around 10:30 a.m. to check the well-being of a subject standing outside. As a result of the investigation, the subject was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from Burlington County, N.J., and transferred without incident.
  • At 7 p.m., a Wrightstown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud involving cryptocurrency. The incident was referred to the detective division with an investigation is ongoing.

December 18

  • At 10:10 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford Escape for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham and Durham roads. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The operator refused to submit blood for chemical testing, and charges are pending.

December 19

  • At approximately 3:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder for committing a vehicle code violation at the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. As a result of the investigation, a passenger was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Municipal Court of Philadelphia. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending.
