NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department responded to a number of incidents between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27.

Friday, Jan. 21

8:30 a.m. — Police stopped a blue Ford pickup truck for committing a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Durham Road. The driver was taken into custody on active arrest warrants from the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office. A small amount of suspected marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence, and the driver received a citation.

The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail on Washington Avenue and North Elm Avenue in Newtown Borough. During the detail, 11 trucks were stopped and inspected. Three citations were issued for violations, and one truck was placed out of service.

10:45 a.m. — Ulta Beauty reported a retail theft that occurred Jan. 24. The total value of loss was approximately $1,210, and the investigation is ongoing.

Thursday, Jan. 27

7:45 p.m. — Police responded to Swamp Road and the Newtown Bypass for the report of an unconscious driver of a black Subaru stopped at the red light. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
