Window Artists Set The Scene For Halloween In Downtown Newtown
Throughout Saturday, individuals, families and groups dodged raindrops to paint the town with pumpkins, spiders, skeletons and more.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Halloween season has officially arrived in Newtown.
Throughout the business district, teams of volunteer painters worked their Halloween magic on Saturday, transforming store windows into a palette of ghostly, fall fun.
It was all in preparation for the big Halloween weekend, which arrives in town on Saturday, October 25 with the borough’s annual Halloween Parade.

Throughout the day on Saturday, individuals, families and groups dodged raindrops to paint the town with pumpkins, spiders, scary skeletons, witches and some of Halloween’s scariest monsters.
At Countryside Gallery, Maddie Adamusko was decorating the windows with a Rocky Horror theme and with a character she came up with. Her mother, Carol, was a few doors down decorating the windows at the Zebra-Striped Whale with pumpkins and ghosts.

Over at Opus Elite Real Estate, a group of students from Newtown Friends School were creating a Haunted House to go with the real estate theme. They added ghosts, bats and a scary cat to set the scene and a sign listing the house “For Scare.”
Across the street, Elizabeth and Carolyn Austin and Sophie Sloan were putting the finishing touches on the front windows at Taya Bermudez Makeup Artist where they immortalized their pet dog and three cats.

At State Street Kitchen, mother and son - Orla McCourt and Braeden Escobar - were creating a window celebrating “Stranger Things,” which returns to Netflix in November with its fifth and final season. “This year with Stranger Things coming out, it just made sense. We’re excited for the new season,” said McCourt.
Down the street at Starbucks, the Kuchek and King families were decorating the Centre Avenue window with vintage-style Halloween cartoon characters.
Meanwhile, the front windows were being transformed by Shannon and Scarlet Stucky and Brooke Kuttner. Shannon was putting the finishing touches on a shark scene while Scarlet and Brooke were working on a Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin theme.
Just down the street at Diener Money Management, Lexie Decheser was combining her love of horses with her love of Halloween as she transformed the front windows of the business with images of two horses. Decorating the other front windows with a ghostly scene where candy corn rains from the sky were members of Girl Scout Troop 21884 from Crossing Community Church.
During this year’s Halloween Art Scene, more than 50 volunteers stepped forward to help decorate windows at about 50 stores and businesses throughout the State and Sycamore Street business districts.
Other window paintings not to be missed include a really cool dragon selfie by artists Jackie Koczar, Lynn Kopacz, Mindy and Brandi Chesner on the windows at Lovely Poke and Tea House and a Halloween zombie bearing flowers on the side window at the Salt Cave by Kim Orr and Paige Kaufmann.
Winners of this year’s contest will be announced at the Newtown Halloween Parade on Oct. 25 and on the Newtown Halloween website. Prizes will be available for pick up at the Newtown Bike Shop on North State Street.
