1 Killed In West Norriton Apartment Fire, Investigation Underway

State and local officials are investigating the cause of Thursday's tragedy in Montgomery County.

WEST NORRITON TOWNSHIP, PA — One person was killed in the apartment fire in West Norriton Township on Thursday, authorities confirmed.

The incident began at around 8:43 a.m. at the Westover Village Apartments, located on 6 Meadow Lane.

Smoke was billowing from the building when authorities arrived, and firefighters scrambled to make an entry as they had reports of a person trapped inside.

Inside they extinguished the fire and found the trapped resident, a 69-year-old woman, but she succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities are not yet sure what caused the blaze.

“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” Fire Marshal Michael Valyo said in a statement. “The investigation remains ongoing, and while the fire has been extinguished, the cause has not yet been determined."

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Office is working with local authorities on the investigation.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident and thank all responding fire, police, and EMS agencies for their swift and coordinated response," West Norriton Township shared in a statement.

The full extent of the damage to the apartment building is not clear.
