$6 Million Water Main Replacement Begins In Norristown And East Norriton

More than a mile of century-old pipes "never designed for today's needs" will be replaced, officials said.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A massive $6 million water main replacement project will bring needed infrastructure improvements to Norristown and East Norriton, officials said. Work began on Monday.

The new 24-inch main will replace more than a mile of small-diameter mains, potentially improving service for thousands in the area.

“We’re replacing century-old pipes that were never designed for today’s needs,” said Alfonso Rossi, senior project engineer for Pennsylvania American Water. “The new main will allow us to keep more customers in service when work must be done.”

Work will take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and lane restrictions will intermittently cause additional traffic in the area. Most restrictions are expected to be single lane closures, though road closures are possible.
