Interstate 476 motorists in Montgomery County will encounter nighttime lane closures next week between the Route 30 (Exit 13) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges for construction of sign structure foundations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.
This work is the final part of PennDOT’s $71 million project to improve 3.2 milesInterstate 476 in Montgomery County.

Weather permitting, the contractor’s work schedule next week is:
- On Monday (Sept. 10), one of the three southbound lanes will be closed between Germantown Pike (Exit 20) and Interstate 76 (Exit 16)from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11), and one of the three northbound lanes will be closed between the Ridge Pike (Exit 18) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11);
- On Tuesday (Sept. 11), one of the three southbound lanes will be closed between Germantown Pike (Exit 20) and Ridge Pike (Exit 18) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 12);
- On Wednesday (Sept. 12), one of the three southbound lanes will be closed between Germantown Pike (Exit 20) and Ridge Pike (Exit 18) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 13), and one of the three northbound lanes will be closed between Route 30 (Exit 13) and I-76 (Exit 16) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 13); and
- On Thursday (Sept. 13), one of three southbound lanes will be closed between the Chemical Road on-ramp and Ridge Pike (Exit 18)from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday (Sept. 14), and one of the three northbound lanes will be closed between Route 30 (Exit 13) and I-76 (Exit 16) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday (Sept. 14).
If inclement weather postpones construction one night, crews will work Friday night (Sept. 14), closing lanes on I-476 in either direction between Route 30 (Exit 13) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 15).

Brief traffic stoppages also may occur in either direction within the I-476 work zone from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work areas and to be alert for slowdowns and backups.
PennDOT’s contractor, Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, substantially completed the reconstruction of I-476 between I-76 and Germantown Pike earlier this year. The project’s final construction items, including “punch list” adjustments and the erection of overhead sign structures, are expected to be completed by late October.
The I-476 reconstruction project is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
