Car Accident Ignites Electrical Fire, Shuts Down DeKalb Street

A car struck a utility pole on DeKalb at Summit, bringing down wires and igniting a fire.

Residents in the neighborhood of DeKalb and Summit streets were awakened shortly before 7am this morning by the sounds of explosions.

A work truck collided with a another car along DeKalb Street this morning and the vehicle struck a utility pole along DeKalb at Summit Street. At least four live wires were brought down, igniting the vehicle and another parked car nearby.

Norristown Fire Department and PECO were on the scene in minutes to control the blaze and secure the scene. Power has been restored to some neighbors already. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

Dekalb Street is currently closed between Fornance and Brown streets as crews work to clear the scene and restore power to the remaining residents and offices.
