An Ambler resident who was allegedly driving under the influence had a fender bender with a Norristown police cruiser Thursday morning.

Talk about wrong place, wrong time – according to a report from the , Mark DeSantis, of the 700 block of Meadowcreek Circle in Ambler, was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving after rear ending a police officer in his cruiser shortly after 4am on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
The Norristown officer was stopped at a red light at the intersection of DeKalb and East Main streets when DeSantis, reportedly driving at a high rate of speed, struck the police cruiser from behind. When police approached the vehicle to get DeSantis’s driver’s license and registration, officers report they immediately detected an odor of alcohol.
DeSantis reportedly said he had in fact been drinking when asked by police. After conducting a field sobriety test, DeSantis failed and consented to take a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content. DeSantis was then transported to and blood was drawn. The blood sample was submitted into evidence and sent to the National Medical Services for analysis.
