Norristown is supposedly the "Heart of Montgomery County." It's the second wealthiest county in the State of Pennsylvania and yet the perpetuation of poverty, homelessness, crime, drugs, youth violence, inter-racial tensions and lack of homeownership continue to persist.

We are also in an educational crisis given the fact that the Norristown Area School District is the only school district that is in its 3rd year failing the AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) in all of Montgomery County (see the PA Department of Education Report Card.)

Norristown is in a "crisis." Every candidate and political party claims to have the solution. We are losing a substantial tax base by the flight of local businesses and , lack of employment opportunities and major state budget cuts. It's time to engage in the process and be informed about the issues.

These are challenging days and for the first time in years there is an increasing number of candidates running for elected positions that will impact you, your family and future.

The purpose of this forum is to help you make an informed decision come election day on Tuesday, May 17. What happens in Norristown affects the entire County. Your voice counts!

This forum will be facilitated by Rev. Brian Akamine and will be a opportunity for audience participating to ask questions and hear responses from each candidate regarding issues most important to you. Lunch and child care will be provided.

This event is brought to you on behalf of the residents and families of the community and does not endorse any candidate or party.
