Here are five things to know about Norristown and life today.

1. Lance Corporal Jason Kilmartin, 2nd Battalion 8th Marines, returns from Afghanistan today, and his family is inviting the whole town to come welcome the Kennedy-Kenrick graduate home. Join them in the parking lot of the Walmart at 650 S. Trooper Road at 5:30 p.m. to cheer on our hometown hero. Following the welcome, a motorcycle escort will lead Kilmartin home, and anyone with a bike is welcome to join.

2. is holding a blood drive today from 1 to 7 p.m. in the first floor social hall. Stop by and give the gift of life.

3. Norristown's Iron Age Theatre is once again joining in on the Philadelphia Fringe Festival with Christie in Love, a one-act play about necrophiliac serial killer John Christie. Expect blow up dolls, newspaper graves and monstrous masks as the play turns the traditional police procedural on its head. It opens this weekend at Eastern State Penitentiary Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 6:30 and 8 p.m. It will be playing at the in Norristown next weekend.

4. Just in time for the Labor Day weekend, PennDOT is unveiling a new app for drivers using the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The free app will reportedly offer an innovative way for customers to hear what's happening on the road. Check your smartphone's app store this afternoon, and get a leg up on your fellow commuters.

5. The Norristown Summer Concert Series continues Sunday at the Fire Marshal's Bandstand in . The NorrisTones take the stage at 7 p.m.
