Here are five things to know about Norristown and life today.

1. is hosting a from noon to 6 p.m. for Shane Franzone, a Norristown Area High School grad suffering from a rare blood disease. Shane received a bone marrow transplant in June and is still recovering at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. All blood types are welcome. Stop by and help out a Norristown native in his time of need.

2. By now most of you have read or heard about yesterday's shooting on East Oak Street. YouTube user Steve42065 was on the scene and happened to get video of police surrounding the house the suspect was thought to be hiding in—a bit shaky, but compelling. Good work Steve!

3. Speaking of compelling video, another YouTube user who goes by the handle herladylioness posted some great video of flooding caused by Hurricane Irene. It's great to have so many budding documentary filmmakers in Norristown.
