Instagam Taking Steps to Disable its Photos on Twitter

Instagram disabled the ability for Twitter users to display full Instagram photos, escalating tensions between the two companies, according to a New York Times Blog. 

The two companies, which previously worked together to battle Facebook, have become direct competitors now that Facebook purchased Instagram.

"Users are experiencing issues with viewing Instagram photos on Twitter. Issues include cropped images," Twitter said in a status update. "This is due to Instagram disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience. So, when users click on Tweets with an Instagram link, photos appear cropped."

Instagram Chief Executive Kevin Systrom confirmed the action, and said the company plans to cut off embedding pictures on the Twitter web site completely.

“We’ve decided that right now, what makes sense, is to direct our users to the Instagram Web site,” Systrom said, according to the blog.
