Lafayette Street Trail Gateway In Norristown Moves Forward

The proposed linear park would connect to the new Trail Junction Center.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Contractors will move forward with a plan to design a master plan for the proposed Lafayette Street Trail Gateway in Norristown, Montgomery County Commissioners voted this week.

The gateway would serve as a connector between a new stretch of trail and the Trail Junction Center at the nexus of the Schuylkill River Trail and the Chester Valley Trail.

The proposed Gateway will run for about half a mile along Lafayette Street from Ford Street to the Trail Junction Center.

Officials said the master plan will include various trail amenities, a small linear park, and more.

The new master plan will be created by Salt Design Studio, architects of numerous acclaimed regional projects including improvements at Rowan University, the Barmouth Trailhead on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, and the Bala Avenue Pocket Park, among others.

An exact timeline for the development of the new park is not yet known.

It's the latest improvement to a constantly evolving Lafayette Street corridor that has seen significant investment from both the state and the county as part of Norristown's ongoing revitalization.
