Letter to the Editor: Mount Zion A.M.E. Church Seeking School Supplies

The Department of Christian Education of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church has started to gather donations to provide backpacks and school supplies for needy children in the Norristown area.

In Norristown more than 75% of all families receive free school lunch during the school year. These families live in poverty all year. Poverty does not take a summer vacation. The parents of the children in the Norristown Area School District work hard every day to provide the basics for their families. This includes food, clothing, shelter and medical care.

Many families cannot afford the extras. Many Norristown parents do not have a disposable income. They cannot afford the supplies necessary to outfit their children for the school year.

The Department of Christian Education of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church has started early to gather donations needed to provide backpacks and school supplies for needy children in the Norristown Area.

When children are prepared they feel confident and work harder. It is our way of lessening the burden on parents. Please help us help others and send a check for $100 or whatever you wish to donate to support this effort. We appreciate your community support.
