Man Arrested For Using Pepper Spray on Assault Victim

Charles King is being charged with disorderly conduct, possession of an instrument of crime and drug offenses.

According to a report from the Norristown Police Department, officers arrested Charles King, of the 800 block of Lafayette Street, on Friday, Aug. 3, after they encountered him assaulting another man.

An officer on routine patrol in the area of Haws and Lafayette streets reportedly observed King chasing another man and yelling at him to stop and fight him. King caught up with the victim and allegedly struck the man several times before the officer was able to intervene and place King in custody.

The victim told police that King had sprayed him with pepper spray. Police say that the victim had visibly red eyes, a runny nose and smelled of pepper spray.

A search of King's person revealed a can of Streetwise Red Hot Pepper Spray, two black baggies containing suspected cocaine residue and four individually-wrapped doses of Suboxone sublingual film.

The victim was treated by emergency medical personnel, but refused to press assault charges against King. Police are charging King with possession of an instrument of crime, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
