UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Saturday's Fatal Stabbing

Palmer Rodriguez is charged in the death of 18-year-old Jervonte Tyler.

Authorities have announced an arrest in the Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the on DeKalb Street in Norristown.

Palmer Rodriguez, 31, of 545 Green St., has been charged with first and third degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime in connection with the death of Jervonte Tyler, 18, according to a statement issued this afternoon by Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman and Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono.

According to reports, Rodriguez was arrested at the home of a friend on the 900 block of W. Main St., within an hour after the Saturday stabbing incident. Rodriguez reportedly had visible blood stains on the top and side of his Nike sneakers.

A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Aug.17 before Magisterial District Judge Margaret Hunsicker.

The victim, 18 year-old Jervonte Tyler, was discovered lying in the parking lot of the CVS, bleeding from lacerations to his chest by officers who had been called to the location by a CVS employee.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the two men were arguing and the argument turned into a physical altercation. During the altercation, a witness told police Rodriguez stabbed Tyler and fled North.

Tyler was transported to by ambulance where he was pronounced dead at 2:08 p.m. The cause of death was reported as multiple stab wounds to the victim's thorax.
