Norristown Fire Department Helps County Clear Flooded Garage
The fire department responded to the courthouse this afternoon to help county workers pump water out of a flooded underground garage.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, the Norristown Fire Department responded to the Main Street side of the for a "Special Service" call shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The fire department was called to help county workers pump flood waters that were reportedly several feet deep from the underground garage beneath the courthouse.
According to Montgomery County Director of Communications Frank Custer, the heavy rains from Friday and again today would normally be handled by pumps installed in the garage, but a power outage knocked those pumps out of commission. The Norristown Fire Department was called in to help with the pumping.

"We have pumps down there, but we lost power," said Custer. "So we called in our friends from the fire department and they came down to help us out. Usually our pumps can handle it."
According to Norristown Fore Chief Thomas O'Donnell, the fire department is allowing the county use of its equipment until the water can be cleared from the garage. Chief O'Donnell estimates work may contine until late tonight.

"There's a lot of water down there," said Chief O'Donnel. "It's a slow process."
