reported on the over 1,500 residents in the area of School Lane and Coleman Street who lost power yesterday when electrical lines came down sometime before noon. PECO had restored power to more than half of the customers by 1 p.m.

A PECO spokesperson couldn't say what brought the power lines down, but speculated that a passing truck may have snagged them.

Gang Members Denied Bail Reduction

Also in The Herald, a judge denied bail reduction petitons for three members of the "Gangsta Killer Bloods" gang accused of last year's firebombings and several other crimes in Norristown.

More Norristown Crimes

The Herald also reported on the arrest of 21-year-old Cecclia M. Rivera, who allegedly threw a knife at her roommate and a police officer.

Police were called to the East Jacoby Street residence Monday evening and came upon an fight between Rivera and another woman. In the heat of battle, Rivera reportedly threw a knife toward the woman and an officer on the scene. The officer had to use a Taser to subdue Rivera. She was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

The Herald noted that 19-year-old Brittany Cappio was sentenced yesterday to six to 23 months in prison for hitting her 1-year-old child so hard it caused skull fractures.

Cappio pleaded guilty to charges of simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child. She's also ordered to attend parenting and anger management classes.

Arbor Heights Breaks Ground

Our local CBS affiliate, KYW, reported on the Arbor Heights groundbreaking on Wednesday evening. The story touts the development's affordability and the efforts to make the new homes blend in with the stately old mansions that still line DeKalb Street.

Project Restoration Kicks Off

The Herald has great pics and video from the Norristown Ministerium's Youth Project Restoration last night at Siloam Baptist. The three-day event is intended to comfort and support families who've lost children to violence in Norristown and the families of the perpetrators who may be looked down upon by the community.
