Sending Our Stadium Off in Style
It's the final quarter for Roosevelt Stadium, and the district wants to retire the old girl with one heck of a party.
It's a party a century in the making. With the Norristown Area School District this year, Roosevelt Stadium, home to the Eagles since its opening in 1909, is finally being officially retired. But not before one last hurrah.
The Roosevelt Stadium Celebration Committee has been meeting weekly to plan the final farewell for the Norristown landmark, and on Friday, Sept. 30, they're inviting all of Norristown to come say goodbye to a community treasure.
"It's gonna be a party in the house," said School Board President Denise Ashe, who's leading the planning committee.

The night will kick off with a parade to the stadium from Eisenhower. Once everyone makes it to Roosevelt, Senior Night activities will kick off before the Eagles take on the Wissahickon Trojans. After the game, the DJ takes over, and the crowd will be invited to take the field so the real party can begin.
The district also wants to use this opportunity to honor decades of athletic achievement by Norristown alumni. Alumni athletes, especially those who've played on Roosevelt's field and track, are invited to come and be recognized during the game. There will be a special alumni section in the bleachers, and group photos will be organized throughout the night.

If you're an alumni athlete, and you want to participate in the celebration, make sure you let the folks at the gate know, and they can direct you to an alumni coordinator.
It won't all be about sports that night. Vendors and local organizations are invited to purchase a table for the night, (Norristown Patch will be there!) and attendees will have plenty of food, music and activities to keep the night going. Not to mention the chance to see our Eagles soar over the Trojans for the last game in the stadium's history.
If you'd like to support the effort and help raise money for the new athletic complex, and a vendor table isn't your thing, alumni and local businesses are invited to purchase a banner that will be hung in the stadium advertising your support. All proceeds from the evening will go to fund the new athletic complex scheduled to open this fall.
If you'd like to purchase a table, buy a banner or get involved in helping to plan the party, call Anne Rohricht at 610-630-5006.
