Woman Shot on East Oak Street, Suspect in Custody

A neighborhood fight turned especially violent. One woman was flown to a Philadelphia hospital, and at least one man is in custody.

At least one woman has been shot and one man is in custody following an argument that turned violent today at East Oak and High Alley (just below Green Street) near New Hope Baptist Church.

Neighbors were tight-lipped about the details of today's violence, but the fight that allegedly errupted between two women shortly before 11 a.m. was witnessed by several residents waiting in line at New Hope Baptist Church.

According to some witness reports, the two women were fighting and a man came to the aid of one woman and began to help her fight the other woman. A second man then arrived with a gun and began shooting, but his shots repotedly did not hit anyone.

The second man reportedly then dropped his gun, at which point the first man in the fight picked up the weapon and began firing. Witnesses allege that one of the shots struck the woman he was attempting to help in the neck.

Norristown police arrived on the scene, followed by EMS. According to , the victim was taken to an area hospital by Plymouth Ambulance. Her condition is unknown at this time. Police are said to have at least one man in custody, though it is unknown if the man in custody is the shooter.

Police on the scene were using metal detectors to search the area, possibly for the gun used in the crime. A black GMC Suburban was also removed from the area at Green Street and is thought to be the automobile of one of the suspects. The car has a noticeable bullet hole above the driver's side door, though it does not appear to have occured in this incident.

The has not released any information regarding the incident and witnesses at the scene were reluctant to talk on record about the crime.
