Churchville Elementary Students Color For A Cause

Sponsored by the sixth-grade art club, Color-4-A-Cause raised more than $1,000, which went toward holiday gifts for local children.

NORTHAMPTON, PA — Students at Churchville Elementary School took time out from the schedules to color recently and to help those less fortunate in the process.

Sponsored by the sixth-grade art club, Color-4-A-Cause raised more than $1,000, which went toward holiday gifts for children in the community.

In mid-November, 29 art club members joined together to organize the event. Each of them designed a coloring page. The pages were photocopied and brought to homerooms throughout Churchville Elementary.

On Monday, Nov. 19, students at Churchville took 15 minutes, from 10:30-10:45 a.m., and colored together. While they were coloring, holiday music about peace and sharing played over the school's loudspeaker and art club members visited homerooms to remind students why they were coloring.

For the opportunity, kindergartners through sixth graders brought in a donation for those in need. Art club students also walked the halls and the car-rider line to collect donations. In all, the effort raised $1,006.96.

On Dec. 5, art club students and their parents met at a local craft store to buy gifts for children from needy families in the community. Each student received an envelope full of money to spend along with a card giving details about the child they were shopping for. The partnering store gave the students 15 percent off of their purchases.
