Scam Alert Issued By Northampton Township Police
"Please remember, if anyone contacts you and asks for money, payment through an app, or gift cards, it is usually a scam," said police.
RICHBORO, PA — Northampton Township Police are urging residents not to fall for the latest phone scam from a person claiming to be from the victim’s bank.
Police said the scammers not only have the potential victim's bank information, but also their personal information as well.
The scammers, who often report being from the bank’s fraud division, will try to confirm personal bank information and then indicate an issue with the potential victim’s bank account.

Police said the scammer will ask for money through Apple Pay, Zelle and/or any other type of payment type or gift cards to fix the issue.
Police said in one incident, the scammer told the individual that they needed payment to offset a negative balance in their account that allegedly was hacked. The individual that was contacted grew suspicious to the phone call, hung up and then contacted their bank directly. Their bank confirmed that the phone call was fraudulent.
