Parkland Schools Open and New Yard Waste Center Hours Begin This Week

Here's a look at the week ahead in and around North Whitehall Township.

• The Parkland School District holds its first day of classes Tuesday.
• North Whitehall Township's gated yard waste center hours change beginning Tuesday to: 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
• David Adam will speak about Pennsylvania Dutch lore and language at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Schneck Log House.

• Parkland High School's Parent Orientation meeting will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school auditorium.

• Orefield Middle School will hold its first Parent Teacher Organization meeting of the year 9 a.m. Wednesday.

• Love dogs? Join Connie Newcomb, author of "Dog Show Confidential: Sneaking in the Back Door of Westminster," to learn about how she turned a neurotic, man-hating Chihuahua puppy into a champion, ending up at Madison Square Garden’s annual televised Westminster Kennel Club dog show with an Award of Merit for her second champion. Book Signing and Talk at Parkland Community Library 7 p.m. Thursday.
