1 In Custody For Deadly West Philly Hit-And-Run: Reports

Dorothea Cathell, 77, was fatally struck by a vehicle at 5:20 p.m. Friday, at 54th Street and Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia Police said.

PHILADELPHIA — A man is in custody in connection with a deadly West Philadelphia hit-and-run crash.

According to Action News, Michael F. Harper, 47, surrendered to police Monday.

Harper is accused of striking 77-year-old Dorothea Cathell last week.

The fatal crash happened at 5:20 p.m. Friday, at 54th Street and Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia Police said.

A black Infiniti with a Delaware paper tag was heading east on Lancaster Avenue when it struck Cathell.

The vehicle reversed down Lancaster Avenue and drove off, heading south. Police said the driver dropped off a female passenger at a pizza shop near 56th Street and Girard Avenue.

The victim was taken to Lankenau Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:52 p.m.

Police Monday found the Infiniti, Fox 29 reports.

According to NBC10, the vehicle was found in the area of 27th and Snyder in South Philadelphia after a person at an auto shop said the car was brought there.

Charges for Harper were not immediately available in the online Pennsylvania court portal.
