Debby Wreaks Havoc On Air Travel At PHL: 250 Flights Delayed, Canceled
Tropical Storm Debby is wreaking havoc on flights to and from Philadelphia, causing more than 150 delays and nearly 100 cancelations Monday.
PHILADELPHIA — Impacts from Tropical Storm Debby are hitting travelers going to and leaving from the Philadelphia International Airport. As of 3:10 p.m. Monday, flight tracking website FlightAware.com is reporting 250 flights are either delayed or canceled at the airport.
The site shows 153 flights are delayed and 97 are canceled. According to the site, many impacted flights include those to, and leaving from, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa.
Of the delayed flights, 71 are leaving Philadelphia and 82 are arriving in Philadelphia. As for cancelations, 45 were scheduled to fly out of the city and 52 were to arrive in Philadelphia.

Debby made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in northern Florida Monday morning. It was later downgraded to a tropical storm.
After strengthening into a hurricane overnight, Debby was downgraded to a tropical storm late Monday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center's 11 a.m. update.

Debby made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane Monday around 7 a.m. in Florida’s Big Bend area.
A 13-year-old boy died in the storm after being crushed to death around 8 a.m. after a tree fell on a mobile home he was inside, according to a Levy County Department of Public Safety news release. There were no other injuries.
Meanwhile, the impacts to the Philadelphia region are expected to be felt throughout the week.
According to the National Weather Service, an approaching cold front will cross the Philadelphia region Tuesday night. "This front will interact with tropical moisture associated with Hurricane Debby to result in heavy downpours over the area. Rainfall totals will average 1 to 2 inches, but locally higher amounts are possible," the NWS said in its daily summary. "Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible."
