Here are the top stories in Philadelphia today:
- Fake United States cash worth several million dollars was seized in Philadelphia by customs officers. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, customs officers in Philadelphia seized more than $6.5 million in counterfeit currency on Tuesday in an international air cargo going from Russia to an address near Chicago. Officers seized a combined $6,511,294 in counterfeit United States currency that arrived in five parcels. (Philadelphia Patch)
- Outdoor dining, a staple in the COVID-19 era, could become permanent in Philadelphia if two recently introduced bills are passed. The bills, introduced by Councilman Allan Domb and cosponsored by various other council members, would allow restaurants to apply for a license to set up seating outside their brick-and-mortar storefronts beyond the end of 2021 when the emergency order is set to expire. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
- Philadelphia police responded to a deadly shooting inside of an office building in the city's Logan section on Friday morning. Police were called to the 5200 block of Old York Road just before 11:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene, they cleared the building floor by floor and found the suspect on the third floor of the building. (WPVI-TV)
- Recreation centers and playgrounds in Philadelphia that have experienced gun violence could be getting new, 360-degree security cameras by next spring. City Council member Cindy Bass introduced legislation Thursday that would increase the city's capital budget by $1.8 million to purchase and install "Safe Play Zone" cameras. The cameras provide 360-degree views that would better assist police in their efforts to keep play spaces safe in the city. (PhillyVoice.com)
- There were five people shot in Philadelphia over Thursday night. The shootings were all separate instances. One of the victims was in a wheelchair. (First State Update)
