Boy, 11, Critical After Broad Street Crash Wednesday: Police

An 11-year-old boy and a 33-year-old man are both in critical condition after a crash at North Broad and Wallace streets Wednesday.

PHILADELPHIA — A wrong way crash in Philadelphia early Wednesday afternoon left two people, including an 11-year-old boy, in critical condition.

According to police, a 2021 white Hyundai Kona driven by a 33-year-old male was going south in the northbound lanes of North Broad Street at about 4:15 p.m.

The Hyundai ignored a red traffic signal and struck a 2017 white Toyota Camry that was heading east on Wallace Street, police said.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage to their front ends.

The Hyundai's driver and passenger were taken to Temple University Hospital, where the driver is in critical condition and the passenger is in stable condition.

The Toyota's driver, a 37-year-old man, declined medical treatment while his 11-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for treatment. The boy is in critical condition with multiple injuries, police said.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
