Here are the top stories today in Philadelphia:
- The city of Philadelphia has announced the race route and subsequent road closures for the annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run. The route has changed this year because of planned construction in the Navy Yard along League Island Boulevard, and runners will veer off Broad Street twice near City Hall and the Stadium District. The race will end on Pattison Avenue, 0.2 miles west of Broad Street, the city says. (Philadelphia Patch)
- An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was carjacked on Wednesday night in West Philadelphia. The officer had just returned home from her shift at the airport around 11:20 p.m. when the incident happened. Police say two armed men wearing black clothing carjacked the officer on Hazel Avenue and South 46th Street. The officer was not injured. (WPVI-TV)
- A lush 3-acre play space with a waterfront view along with an expansive cafe is coming to South Philadelphia’s Frank Delano Roosevelt Park in 2023. The Fairmount Park Conservancy, city officials, and the Friends of FDR Park on Wednesday unveiled designs and an official timeline for the ambitious reboot of the sprawling park near the stadiums. The City of Philadelphia also announced an additional $50 million investment in FDR Park’s rejuvenation plan, to be distributed over the next five years. (The Philadelphia Tribune)
- Police are investigating after a Philadelphia school cafeteria window was hit by gunfire overnight Wednesday. Officers were called to the Antonia Pantoja Charter School on the 4100 block of North American Street Thursday morning after police said a staff member found five bullet holes in a cafeteria window. No students were inside the school when the apparent gunshots struck the building. (FOX 29 News Philadelphia)
- A Northeast Philadelphia family is asking for the public’s help to find their beloved puppy, who served as a teen's therapy dog and was taken just yards from their home. Elizabeth Colon said 6-month-old puppy Niko got out of the family’s house on the 800 block of Scattergood Street while she and her daughter were taking out the trash on Sept. 21. Surveillance cameras captured at least two people walking away with the dog, a Yorkie-Poodle mix who helps Colon’s 15-year-old grandson deal with severe anxiety. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
