Charges Downgraded In Woman's Deadly Center City Shooting: DA

New evidence reportedly shows Lauren Jardine pulling a gun on John Kelly before he took the gun from her and fatally shot her last week.

PHILADELPHIA — After a woman was fatally shot in Center City Philadelphia and a man was charged with murder and more crimes, authorities in the city have downgraded the charges filed after obtaining new information.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office Homicide John Kelly, 45, with murder and related crimes in connection with the fatal shooting of Luaren Jardine, 33, on the 1200 block of Chestnut Street Friday.

However, authorities Wednesday said Kelly's charges have been lessened to voluntary manslaughter, firearm violations, possession of an instrument of crime, and related offenses.

Jardine intervened and pulled a gun on Kelly, Action News reports. Kelly, armed with a screwdriver, rested the gun from Jardine and fatally shot her, according to the outlet.

"The DAO's Victim Services Unit and C.A.R.E.S. Unit have been in communication with the victim's family to offer critical and necessary support during this investigative and criminal justice process," the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office said Wednesday. "As this remains an ongoing investigation, we have no further comment at this time."
