Supply for the expanded rollout in the state is sourced directly from the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 vaccines. The program is a collaboration between the federal government, states and pharmacy partners.

According to the CDC, the program is being implemented incrementally based on the available vaccine supply, with select retail pharmacy locations providing COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals. As vaccine availability increases over time, the program will expand to ultimately include all 40,000 pharmacies in the United States, the CDC said.

In Pennsylvania, people currently eligible for the vaccine include those age 65 or over, health care personnel, people with high-risk conditions and long-term care facility residents and staff.

“We’re proud to play a part in increasing access to the vaccine to as many people as possible to enable reopening efforts in the communities we serve,” said Neela Montgomery, president of CVS Pharmacy and executive vice president of CVS Health. “Feedback on every aspect of the vaccination process has been incredibly positive, from the digital experience to interacting with our team of health care professionals whose incredible efforts are helping to move us one step closer towards the eventual end of the pandemic.”

As of Friday, more than 3.1 million vaccine shots had been given in Pennsylvania (excluding Philadelphia, which has its own program). More than 2.1 million had gotten a single dose of one of the vaccines, while more than 1 million had received both shots, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
