Driver Jumps From Bridge After I-95 Crash

The driver broke his leg and ankle after jumping from a bridge following a crash on Interstate 95 south in Philadelphia Thursday morning.

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania State Police took a Philadelphia man into custody after a two-vehicle hit-and-run on Interstate 95 early Thursday.

According to police, troopers were called to mile marker 31.5 on Interstate 95 south in Philadelphia at about 3:22 a.m. Thursday for a report of a two-vehicle crash.

Witnesses told authorities one of the drivers involved in the crash ran off and jumped off a bridge in an apparent attempt to escape the scene, police said.

When troopers showed up, they immediately searched the area.

Troopers quickly found the driver, identified as Jigar N. Parekh, of Philadelphia, under the bridge.

Parekh was suffering a broken leg and broken ankle from the fall, and was showing signs of impairment, state police said.

Parekh was taken into custody without incident and transported to the local hospital for further treatment, according to police.

Police did not say what charges Parekh will face.
